I’ve seen a lot of innovative collaboration activities in the library world–libraries working with schools, libraries working with community agencies, reaching out to museums and artists and scientists to provide fabulous programming.  And I’ve seen libraries eager to share ideas with each other and help each other out, which is another terrific form of collaboration. Last week I heard about the terrific All Library Sports and Pizza Night. 

Three small libraries (Osceola, Dresser and St. Croix Falls), worked together to create a magnificent, all-ages bonanza.  Sports:

The local royalty were there, volunteers were everywhere, a DJ came–it truly was an all-ages event.  All the libraries participated in planning and implementation, and 150 or so people came from all three communities to participate.   This is the sort of thing that would be challenging for a small library to pull off, and possibly have a disappointing return for the amount of work put into it.  But combining forces made it possible.  And more fun, too! Way to go!
