Federal funding news from DPI
From Ben Miller: “Wisconsin’s partial LSTA 2025 funding award just came through! We received 50% of our award for a total of $1,615,416. The timeline for the additional 50% is still unknown, but we have been told they are working on it. We will let you know more as we know it, but this is great news for today.”

What about my receipt paper rolls?
We ordered 100 cases this year, so delivery will be slow and steady. They will be sent out to libraries daily as our courier can handle the extra load. If anyone is running low, please reach out to Sarah (szymanski@ifls.lib.wi.us) and she’ll will send yours out right away.
Can I recycle receipt paper?
Only the Phenol-free (completely chemical free) paper is recyclable. The BPA-free (free of Bisphenol A) rolls still contain the chemical BPS, so they do not recommend those be recycled.
Since the papers look identical, there is no way to tell which paper is arriving as a transit slip in a book, so assume they can’t be recycled. If you order only the Phenol-free paper, recycle that paper used in-house
Is it safe to handle the paper with bare hands?
Yes, according to our company rep. We only purchase BPA-free and Phenol-free paper. Kathy Setter has worked with our sales rep over the years to provide the safest options. Our rep has looked into the issue of chemical transfer on skin, and she shared that the risk is only through oral ingestion. You’d need to eat the paper. If you have staff members who are very sensitive to chemicals, you can order the Phenol-free paper. The prices are similar; the difference is about 2.5 cents per foot more for this option.
Did I get the right Zebra Printer Ribbons?
Yes, you did! The ribbons you received this year will look different, but they will still work in your printer.
The cardboard core is what is measured, not the ribbon itself. The ribbon does not need to extend all the way to the edge of the core, which creates a lot of waste.
We had issues with printing quality with the ribbons we ordered last year, so I wanted to avoid ordering those this year. The new ones Brad ordered this year should print better and they were much less expensive.
See photo below. On the left is a new 4” ribbon. On the right is what the 4” looked like the last few years. Both will fit and function in your printers!
