“I can’t check it out!”

Julie Belz and the other fabulous staff in Ellsworth came up with a terrific skit to promote their summer library program, but this could be used to promote the library any time of year!  Here’s what she says:

“I wrote our skit based on “A Soup Opera” by Jim Gill.  We did “A Book Opera”.  The Cat in the Hat came into the library looking for books.  He was helped by several book characters  – Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Captain Underpants, Pete the Cat, the president and a librarian.
The kids helped with the singing part-“I can’t check it out!” along with the cat in the hat.  Finally the librarian asked what was wrong…well, he didn’t have a library card.  So the librarian helped the Cat get his card.  The Cat in the Hat checked out the books and read happily ever after!  It was a lot of fun and the kids really got into the singing part.”
