From Leah: Adult Services Check-In Round-Up

  • Curbside tales:
    • Some folks are asking for other services, like printing and faxing.  How will your library handle that?  Good to think about it before it happens!
    • For some libraries, there was a LOT of interest at the beginning of this service and it is dropping off a bit.  There are ways to put out publicity about the service to people who might not be monitoring your site or Facebook page.  Some libraries are making posters to put up at the gas station, food pantry, laundromat to make sure people know they can call and get materials.
  • Programs ideas
    • We talked about book clubs:
      • In Ellsworth, they have had good luck with continuing a new 21+ book club that had just started a few months before closure.
      • In Dresser, a book club that is most made up of seniors has been working well on Zoom, most people were okay with using the technology to make  it work.
      • Finding books can be a challenge
        • In Dresser, they have a Read and Review book club where everyone just talks about whatever they are reading.  Leann says this has been widening people’s reading palette.
        • Other e-options:
          • Overdrive has an Indie Author always-available list
          • Overdrive has more simultaneous use options for audio than for books
          • Overdrive has classics in an always-available list (consider pairing classics with theater live streaming options)
          • Freading is a good option, they even have a book club filter.  If you struggle with making Freading work, check out the Ellsworth website for staff-created videos!
    • Stacey from Augusta had some great ideas.  The first two she hasn’t tried yet.
      • Virtual Talent Show!  Some folks suggested trying out Flip Grid as a platform for this
      • Virtual Trivia!  She attended a webinar about the topic—I’ll share in tomorrow’s digest!
      • Virtual Film Screenings with Wisconsin Documentary makers!  I’ll share for tomorrow’s digest!
