Thanks to Sam Carpenter at LEPMPL for sharing this idea for a super-fun passive program! Remember, if you don’t have a button-maker, you can borrow one from IFLS, we have 2 tiny button-makers.
To celebrate National Library Week, the youth services staff in Eau Claire put together a button-maker challenge for each day of the week and encouraged people to show their completed buttons to the librarians. Here was their challenge:
Sunday: Do you have a dream? Misty Copeland, ALA’s honorary chair for the week, dreamt of being a ballerina. Draw a picture of your dream or use the word “dream” on your button.
Monday: The American Library Association’s theme for the week is “Libraries Transform: Libraries Lead.” Create your own library slogan or logo.
Tuesday: Honor your favorite book or book character with a picture or a quote.
Wednesday: What is your favorite color? Design a monochromatic button. Monochromatic means using only one color, but you can use different media: pencils, crayons, markers, etc.
Thursday: Design a button that honors Earth Day
Friday: Use every color of the rainbow on your button
Saturday: April is National Poetry Month! Use two rhyming words, a haiku (3 lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables), a simile (The library is like…), or a short poem on your button.
