The Whitehall Community Library is seeking an organized, community-focused leader to serve as Library Director and oversee the daily operations of the library. The Whitehall Community Library is a member of the Winding Rivers Library System and serves the City of Whitehall and surrounding communities.
Whitehall is the county seat of Trempealeau County and is a welcoming, close-knit community with strong local pride and support for public services. The Whitehall Community Library is located in a beautiful new library building that still has that “new building smell,” with inviting public spaces, updated technology, and a demonstration kitchen designed for programming, events, and community engagement.
The Library Director will work with a supportive Library Board of Trustees and be supported by dedicated library staff and an active Friends of the Library group. Together, they value the role of the library as a community gathering place, learning center, and resource for residents of all ages. The library also values strong connections with local schools, community organizations, and area partners.
Responsibilities
The Library Director works under the direction of the Whitehall Community Library Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall administration and management of the library. Key responsibilities include managing library operations and services, supervising staff, developing and maintaining the library collection, preparing and monitoring the library budget, supporting programming and community outreach, maintaining library technology and facilities, building community partnerships, and promoting the library within Whitehall and the surrounding area.
The Library Director also works collaboratively with the Library Board, library staff, municipal officials, community organizations, local schools, volunteers, the Winding Rivers Library System, and the public to support quality library services.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the requirements for Wisconsin Public Librarian Certification, or be willing and eligible to obtain the required certification. A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution, is required. Prior supervisory, administrative, budgeting, public service, or library experience is preferred.
The ideal candidate will be organized, approachable, and community-minded, with strong communication and leadership skills. The successful candidate should demonstrate sound judgment, comfort with library technology, and the ability to build positive working relationships with patrons, staff, the Library Board, city officials, community partners, local schools, and area libraries.
Compensation
Salary starts at $58,000, with consideration given for qualifications, experience, and certification status. Competitive benefits package included.
