Library Celebrations & Events

  • Cornell Public Library is celebrating their centennial! There is a Silent Auction fundraiser with many unique & fun items taking place.  Bidding ends noon- Sat, July 27
For more information, please click on the Centennial tab on the Cornell Public Library website or check out our Facebook page.

What’s going on at your library? Send it to Reb at kilde@ifls.lib.wi.us with “Digest” in the subject line.

CSLP survey

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP)  has created a survey to asses the 2024 CSLP offerings.  One person per library could fill it out, or multiple library staff could complete the sections most relevant to their work (children, teen, or adult programs) on the same survey response.  One survey per library, though.  Even if you didn’t use Adventure Begins at Your Library, your response is valuable.  Survey deadline:  September 13.

Policy examples

IFLS has two resources for policy development to help you write or update policies.

  • Katelyn put together a page with policy examples from libraries on a wide range of subjects.
  • The Intellectual Freedom Working Group developed a set of best practices for policies on the Challenge Support & Intellectual Freedom Resources page. They recommend including the Library Bill of Rights and its interpretation of programs and displays. They also recommend including procedures for handling a statement of concern (reconsideration) and an accompanying form. Like book or material challenges, programs and displays can be subject to challenges, too. Strong policies and reconsideration procedures can help support and guide libraries and boards through the process.

You can find either of these with the direct link. They’re also easy to find with the website search tool (the search icon on the right of the top menu) or the Article Index search box (at the top of the Article Index page). I used “policy” as the search term and these pages came up on top.
