We just received a note from a mother who brought up a simple idea that would help her and her family enjoy the library more. She has a 3 year old who can’t reach the sinks in the restroom, so his mom needs to hold him up to the sink, and try to wash his hands that way. This is difficult for his mom, and very uncomfortable for the boy.

What if we had small stepping stools in our bathrooms to allow for shorter people to reach the faucet? This family isn’t asking for a full re-model of the bathroom, but a little thing like a stepping stool could make a big difference to them. There are fancy retractable stepping stools if space is an issue and budget is not, but I’ve seen regular old stepping stools in bathrooms, too.

Making our libraries family-friendly is sometimes all about the little things.
