The updates include a new social media post and news articles.
All postcards received before July 25 will be sent out to MCFLS to be added to the bulk mail campaign. Go ahead and send them in, even if you think they won’t arrive by then. We have a plan to get them out anyway. You can also send blanks back to the IFLS office, attn: Reb.
Thank you to all the libraries that promoted this campaign! It’s really gotten public library issues out to the public. Watch this space (or the toolkit) for next steps.
AI and Social Justice
ALA’s Social Responsibilities Round Table is hosting a full day of free, virtual programming exploring the intersections of artificial intelligence and social justice. The sessions will be held Monday, August 4 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sessions will dive into topics such as equity, accessibility, environmental impact, digital equity, and the role of generative AI in libraries and society. Each session is free but requires individual registration. Recordings will be available.

The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius (known colloquially as the “Dog Star”), which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
