The next Weekly Digest will be January 8. Watch your email for critical notices. I hope your winter season is merry and bright. Or quiet and dark. Whatever you need it to be.
A little Weekly Digest change
I’ll be sending the Weekly Digest out to the MORE list going forward. Sometimes content only applies to public libraries, but I didn’t want our academic colleagues to miss out. Please pay attention to the content that’s appropriate and useful. Any questions about the Weekly Digest can go to [email protected].
There is so much going on right now!
This is a very unscientific sample based on what I’ve heard. Feel free to send me more news!
- The Thomas St. Angelo Public Library has completed its digitization project of the local newspaper, the Cumberland Advocate. That was a big project-congratulations!
- The Cadott Community Library is at 85% of our Capital Campaign Goal! They are on track for “substantial completion” by June 1st, 2026. They recently got a major donation from the Lions Club.
- New location, new name. When this library opens at 450 S Arch Ave in January, it will no longer be known as Carleton A. Friday Memorial Library; it will become New Richmond Community Library.
- River Falls Public Library reopens on December 26 after extensive renovations.
- Hammond Community Library’s building project was featured in the latest The Municipality Magazine on page 11.
- D.R. Moon Memorial Library in Stanley, and Fall Creek Public Library are also in the middle of building projects!
Only until tomorrow
Giving Feedback That Actually Works recorded webinar by Jesseca Erb from REALiving will be available for the rest of this week. You can access it by signing in here (use your library email address).
Beginning Monday, December 22, PLEASE HOLD all New Richmond (Friday Memorial Library) materials in a designated location at your library.
Because they’re moving. We’ll let you know when the new location opens, and it’s time to send materials back. Thank you for your help!
PLA Conference update
IFLS will be coordinating and funding a bus from IFLS to Minneapolis, with stops in Menomonie, Baldwin, and Hudson on April 2. A few libraries are planning to close for the day to allow all staff to visit the vast exhibit hall, which costs $55. There may be other opportunities for support to attend this conference, please watch for them. In the meantime, IFLS will be supporting 8 library staff and directors to attend the conference, either for one day or the full conference! If you want to sign up for the bus (no longer an interest form, this is registration for taking the bus), please fill out this registration form.
Talking about libraries
Kara Sullivan, the new WLA Executive Director, has an article in the December 2025 issue of The Municipality Magazine. The title is “Libraries: Wisconsin’s Living Rooms for Learning and Connection.” It’s on page 9, there’s no paywall. It would be good to share with your board and others who are involved with your library.
Coming Right Up
For directors
You are invited to join us for a year-end virtual Director Check-In, Friday, December 19 from 10-11 am. We’ll have time to talk through some landmarks of the past year at your library and do some dreaming about what you are hoping to do next year. If you have other questions for the group, please bring them along and we’ll make time for that, too. Please register here!
