Thanks to Jennifer Mabie at Hawkins for a description of a few of her favorite PLA Highlights.
- I liked that they had some of the sessions in the Exhibits Hall with all of the exhibits going on. This was a way to check out some of the vendors and still be able to be close to see some of the sessions that were offered. I also did not have to run to another level if I got caught up at one of the cool exhibits I was checking out, so being in the Exhibit Hall was more convenient for me.
- I liked the Audio Publishers Association Lunch too. It was nice to sit and eat as the authors were discussing the books that they wrote and they told us more about who was actually reading the audiobooks. They told us about being able to pick out who got to read their audiobook and how they picked the lucky person. It was very casual and nice to listen to all of the authors. The food was good too, especially the cheesecake dessert!
- The Beyond Storytime: Community-Building Through Music, Play, and Partnership’s session was amazing! Socorro Pacheco did a great job of showing us how much fun can be had with a crumpled paper, a scarf, and music. We sang, danced and had a blast, and learned how to keep the children entertained. Socorro reminded us that the better the prizes the more participation you will have for programs of all ages.
- The Book Buzz: Presented by Booklist was a great way to learn what books are hot and what genres are coming out soon. It was very nice to hear someone else’s perspective about the different books. All of the presenters did a great job and I would definitely like to do this kind of session again!
